QC/ALM - Import Test Cases from MS Excel

The following describes the necessary steps to upload test cases from MS EXCEL to QC/ALM.

You can either download the Plugin installation + help file from: XXXXXXXXXXXX (and go on with step 6) or get the Plugin via ALM.

1. Login to http://s2qc01:8080/qcbin/

! Note that for the first opening of ALM an installation is necessary for which you need likely the Systemadministrator !

2. Go to ‘Tools’ > ‘More HP ALM Add-in’ - this will direct you to the “ALM Add-ins”

3. Click on ‘Micro Focus ALM Market Place’ – this will direct you to the “Micro Focus APPDelivery Market Place”

4. For any downloads you need to register and create an account. Do this with your SURECOMP email address and login.

5. Download the add-in for ‘Microsoft Excel Add-in’ corresponding to the QC ALM HP version (currently version 12.5 or lower)

6. Extract the .exe file from the downloaded zip folder and run the .exe set-up file (Likely the administrator is needed for installation !)

7. Once the .exe file is run successfully, open an excel sheet and check that ‘HPE ALM Upload Add-in’ is shown next to VIEW.

8. Prepare the test cases in the following QC format:

Column A: Subject: Please give the QC folder path name in the subject (e.g.: \7.3\IMEX 7.3 Base Version\SWIFT 2019 CHANGES\#XXXXXX SWIFT 2019 - MT760)

Column B: Test Name: this will be the test set name in QC.

Column C: Type: this will be ‘Manual’ or ‘Automation’ depending on the values already given in the QC.

Column D: Description: Please give a description of the test case and this will be mapped to the Description section in the QC.

Column E: Step Name: This will always be (Pre-condition, Step 1, Step 2…. )

Column F: Description (Design Steps): This will be the description of the test step (e.g. Step 1) that you are aiming to test.

Column G: Expected Result (Design Steps): This will be the expected result of the test step(e.g, for step 1) that you are aiming to test.

9. Once the test cases are written, ensure that the cells are merged for Subject, Test Description, Type, Description - to mark them as one test case.

10. Keep adding other test cases sequentially; ensuring that the cells are merged correctly. (refer below)

11. Select the entire test cases sheet and ‘Login’ to the QC ALM project from the HP ALM Add-in available on the excelsheet add-in.

12. Mapping: (As below) – mapping should correspond to the columns given in the test cases excel sheet:

13. Validate: This will validate any mistakes in the test case sheet (e.g., empty columns, wrong naming, unmerged cells, etc) – correct them as required.

14. Upload to ALM: Entire test cases given the selected sheet will be uploaded to QC, and the success of the progress will be shown.

15. Login to QC Project and go to ‘Test Plan’ folders and check that new folders are created according to the ‘Subject’ folders given in the excel sheet. (\7.3\IMEX 7.3 Base Version\SWIFT 2019 CHANGES\#XXXXXX SWIFT 2019 - MT760)
