The purpose of this transaction is to check, if the printer control works completely (i.e. continuously from the document in the application as far as to the print output on the correct paper out of the correct bin of the correct printer). For this, the following data can be entered:
Furthermore it can be selected, if a specially created test document (typically for testing the availability of printers/bins) or an already existing document (reasonable, if for example problems with the output of graphics on particular printers occur) shall be used for a test print.
In addition, the “Defaults for Technical Forms” are defaulted from the printer configuration of the Task Manager (MGRTSK) and can be specified differently here for testing.
If the Windows print system (e.g. for the background print of a Unix server system there is no Windows print system available) is not be used, the Unix print system has to be configured accordingly. This includes:
When the icon is clicked, the actual printer to be used is determined, according to the following information:
The object, of which the print settings have been used, and the found printer and bins are displayed afterwards under “Values used for Printing”.
If the option 'Create Postscript Files' under “Print System” is selected, a PostScript file is generated. It is sent together with the selected printer name to the script “bin/unix/tdprtcmd” (resp. TDPRTCMD.BAT) in order to be forwarded to the respective printer queue or the respective output device.
If the option 'Windows Server Printing' is selected, on Client-Server Installations with a server running under windows, it is optional to use windows printers, which have been specified on the server.
After the respective printer has been determined, it can be verified via the icon , if the print takes place as requested. The icon is used to display the document to be printed a preview panel on the screen in order to verify it.
